Benefits of Meditation in the Workplace
Stress in the workplace is accountable for 37% of all work related ill health cases and 45% of all lost working days due to ill health. According to the Health & Safety Executive 488,000 cases of work related stress, depression or anxiety are reported annually leading to 11.7 million lost working days. Stress has been shown to increase absenteeism, lower work standards and raise friction between colleagues. To combat and alleviate this we looked back into our past and found meditation.
Meditation is an ancient practice deigned to help people deeply relax and benefit health-wise. In the 21st century its teachings are being harnessed to improve conditions in the modern workplace.
Incredibly, the human brain tops 50,000 thoughts per day – of these unfortunately, a larger percentage are negative. Consistent negative thinking can raise adrenaline and cortisol levels which may lead to anxiety, depression, digestive upset, heart disease, sleep disorders, obesity, and memory loss. Or in one word stress.
Meditation is used as a technique to reinforce positivity and stimulate collaboration in the workplace. Results show a consistent rise in productivity, creativity and staff retention coupled with a drop in absenteeism.
Organisations already investing in meditation programmes include: Google, Apple, Nike, AOL, Proctor & Gamble. The military and professional sportsmen and women have also acknowledged the benefits of using meditation to improve performance and alleviate stress.
Everyone can enjoy deep relaxation & meditation without having to sit cross-legged (the lotus position). You don’t have to be a yoga master to achieve deep meditation states.
Having covered people training in my previous life as a HR Manager, I was often surprised by the varying budget allowances from company to company ranging from £0 to £70k plus per annum (workforces up to 500 people). It isn’t always about big budgets, as you are fully aware; it’s about choosing the trainers who offer the best value and benefits. I will give you that value with the bespoke training methods I provide.
Meditation has become extremely popular within well known business organisations – join the global crew and start reaping the benefits – it’s a win win situation.
